The Center For Divorce Recovery is
a group of Psychologists, Clinical Social Workers, and Licensed Marital and Family
Therapists who specialize in divorce-related issues. We are dedicated to helping
individuals and families work through the painful emotional issues involved, and to break
the unhealthy relationship patterns of their lives.
The recovery process enables persons to
move from simply coping and surviving, to leading lives in which they feel empowered,
fulfilled and independent, and are involved in relationships that are enriching and
loving.
The Center For Divorce Recovery offers
different levels and modalities of care, ranging from supportive counseling to intensive
individual psychotherapy and highly interactive therapy groups. An important role that we
play as therapists is to help our clients to get "unstuck" so that they can
realize their potential. By and large, we do not subscribe to the medical model of
diagnosis and treatment in which problems in living are seen as psychopathology. Our
humanistic approach to treatment recognizes that people going through a divorce experience
sadness, self-blame, anxiety, shame, guilt, rage, and a variety of other painful emotions
that at times may feel overwhelming. Our goal is not to help our clients to simply
suppress or distract themselves from their pain. Rather, it is to help them work
through these feelings so that they can feel freer, more whole, and more in control of
their lives.
We are particularly concerned with the
effects of divorce on children. Our individual, family and group work with children is
designed to help develop tools that foster both self-acceptance and healthy self-esteem.
These are essential in helping children to weather the stressful, and often traumatic,
events that are intrinsic in the breakup of a family. |
