Rick Tivers, Licensed Clinical Social
Worker, Board Certified Diplomat, earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Education
at Northern Illinois University and his Master of Social Work at the University of
Illinois, Jane Addams College of Social Work. His clinical approach is intense and
results-oriented, focusing on a collaborative relationship with each client. He is a
highly trained group therapist who employs active process work, including psychodrama and
Gestalt activities. He is also known as a therapist's therapist.
Personal
Statement:
I believe the therapeutic relationship is the crucible within which clients are helped
to heal their pain. I take an active role in the therapeutic process by engaging with the
client so he or she feels understood, respected, and seen. I am open with my own
self-disclosure where appropriate in order to help the client know that he or she is not
alone. The feelings of shame, fear, anxiety and other painful emotions are soothed so the
client feels taken care of. The clients I treat often come into therapy in a survival
mode. I feel it is my mission to assist people in moving from survival to a life of
thriving, self-empowerment and self-love.
I have been active in my own growth work
throughout the years and view therapy not as the treatment of a mental illness, but as an
extension of life itself. It is an honor and privilege to engage with people and support
other's growth process.
