Rick Tivers, M.S.W., Licensed Clinical Social Worker

associates-rick.gif (17223 bytes)Rick Tivers, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Board Certified Diplomat, earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Education at Northern Illinois University and his Master of Social Work at the University of Illinois, Jane Addams College of Social Work. His clinical approach is intense and results-oriented, focusing on a collaborative relationship with each client. He is also a highly trained group therapist who employs active process work, including psychodrama and Gestalt methods. He is also known as a therapist's therapist.

Personal Statement:
I believe the therapeutic relationship is the crucible within which clients are helped to heal their pain. I take an active role in the therapeutic process by engaging with the client so he or she feels understood, respected, and seen. I am open with my own self-disclosure where appropriate in order to help the client know that he or she is not alone. The feelings of shame, fear, anxiety and other painful emotions are soothed so the client feels taken care of. The clients I treat often come into therapy in a survival mode. I feel it is my mission to assist people in moving from survival to a life of thriving, self-empowerment and self-love.

I have been active in my own growth work throughout the years and view therapy not as the treatment of a mental illness, but as an extension of life itself. It is an honor and privilege to engage with people and support other's growth process.

Treatment Areas:
Rick Tivers has experience treating the following areas: anxiety disorders, assertiveness, personality disorders, co-dependency, depression, divorce, eating disorders, men's issues, and social isolation.

Treatment Modalities:
Rick Tivers provides gestalt therapy, goal-oriented group psychotherapy, individual and couples psychotherapy, intense relationship therapy, and marathon encounter groups. Rick Tivers works with adults, adolescents, couples and families.
